Small Potatoes:Who Killed The USFL? Film Question

Describe the two leadership styles of Donald Trump and John Bassett. How do their individual styles influence their teams? How did their styles influence the development of the USFL? Do you think the fate of the USFL would be different if Donald Trump was not involved? How?

  1. The difference between the two leaderships in the USFL of John Basset and Donald Trump were obvious. John Bassett believed in taking the league slow so it could one day become part of the majors. He had already failed in one league so he had some experience and wasn’t willing to spend all that money for certain players. Since he did not waste all his money on players, Basset did not become bankrupt like most of the owners. Basset was a friendly person and many people looked up to him and respected him, including Donald Trump. Sadly though, Basset died of brain numerous tumors. Donald Trump on the other hand, wanted the USFL to be in the fall so it could compete with the major league. Donald rushed everything and he spent millions of dollars on players. He recruited the best players for his team. Donald Trump wasn’t scared of losing money because he was a very rich entrepreneur. Donald would do anything to get what he wanted, but the only thing in his way was Basset. After Basset passed away, Trump took over the league and moved it from being a spring sport to a fall sport. I believe that the league could have succeeded if they took it slower, kept the league in the spring, and waited for better players and for more popularity. Football is much more popular today than it was back then. I personally would much rather go to a USFL football game then go to a baseball game.
